PDF Page Numbers & Watermark

Add page numbers and/or a text watermark to every page of a PDF.

About this tool

This adds page numbers, a diagonal watermark, or both, to every page of a PDF — useful for a document draft ("CONFIDENTIAL", "DRAFT"), a printed handout that needs page numbers, or both together.

Page numbers are placed at the bottom of each page in your chosen position, formatted as "Page X of Y". The watermark, when enabled, is drawn as large, semi-transparent diagonal text across each page — visible enough to serve its purpose without making the underlying content unreadable.

Both are added as new text drawn onto each page, not baked into a rasterized image, so the rest of the page's original content — including any selectable text — stays exactly as it was. This runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib; your file is never uploaded anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a custom starting page number?

Not in this version — numbering always starts at 1 for the first page and counts up through the document.

Can I add a watermark without page numbers, or vice versa?

Yes — both are independent checkboxes, so you can enable either one alone or both together.

Does the watermark cover up the original content?

It’s drawn semi-transparent specifically so the original content underneath stays readable — it’s meant to be visible, not to obscure the page.
