This counter updates live as you type, tracking word count, character count (with and without spaces), an approximate sentence count, and an estimated reading time based on an average adult silent-reading speed of 200 words per minute.
It is commonly used to check content against a limit — a meta description that needs to stay under a character count, an essay with a word minimum, or a tweet-length constraint — without needing to open a word processor.
Sentence counting is approximate: it splits on ".", "!", and "?", which works well for normal prose but can overcount on text with abbreviations (like "e.g." or "Mr.") that contain periods without ending a sentence.

It splits on period, exclamation, and question marks. Abbreviations like "e.g." or "Dr." contain periods that are not sentence endings, which can inflate the count slightly.
