Two kinds of entries are supported. A shared expense (like a dinner bill or a hotel booking) has one person who paid, and a set of people it's split between — either everyone in the group, or a chosen subset, useful when not everyone was involved in every cost. A direct payment records money that actually changed hands between two specific people — useful when someone settles part of what they owe outside of a shared expense.
The balances shown aren't just a running total per expense — they're computed from every transaction together, and the "Settle Up" section works out the smallest possible set of payments needed to bring everyone to zero, the same approach apps like Splitwise use, rather than everyone individually paying back everyone else they happened to owe.
Members can join the group at any point — useful for a trip where someone arrives a day late, or an ongoing group that gains people over time. A member can only be removed once their balance is exactly zero, so removing someone can never silently erase money they're owed or still owe — settle up first, then remove them.
Everything is stored only in your browser's local storage, not on a server — there's no login, and also no way to access this from a different device or recover it if your browser data is cleared. The "Share Summary on WhatsApp" button turns the current balances into an image you can send to the group, which is also a reasonable way to keep an informal backup if you're relying on this for something that matters.
You can track up to 3 groups at once in the same browser, switching between them with the tabs at the top — handy if you're running a trip and a separate flat-share tally at the same time. Deleting a group is always confirmed first, with a suggestion to share a summary on WhatsApp before it's gone for good.
Include yourself in the "split between" list as normal — you’ll be credited the full amount you paid and debited your own share, netting to exactly what everyone else owes you for fronting it.
A member can only be removed once their balance is exactly zero — otherwise removing them would silently erase money they’re owed or still owe, corrupting everyone else’s balances. Settle up what they’re owed (or what they owe) first, then remove them.
It finds the smallest possible number of payments that bring everyone to zero — someone who’s owed money by several people might just receive one payment from whoever owes the most, rather than everyone paying everyone individually.
It’s saved in your browser’s local storage automatically as you go, so closing the tab and reopening this page is fine. What isn’t safe is clearing your browser data, reinstalling your browser, or trying to open it on a different device or browser — none of those can see what was saved elsewhere, and there’s no server copy to recover from.
