How to Invest in SIF Funds in India: Platforms and Process
Most SIF investment today happens directly through the AMC or via a SEBI-registered distributor/RIA; broker platform support for SIF is still rolling out unevenly.
Since SIFs are new (the framework took effect 1 April 2025), platform support for actually transacting in them is still uneven -- worth checking directly with whichever app or advisor you use, rather than assuming it works the same way regular mutual fund investing does everywhere.
Directly through the AMC
Every AMC offering a SIF strategy accepts direct investment through its own website or office, the same way direct-plan mutual fund investing already works. This is the one route guaranteed to be available for every scheme, regardless of which broker or app you'd otherwise use.
Through a SEBI-registered distributor or RIA
Given the ₹10 lakh minimum investment and the more complex strategies involved, many first-time SIF investors go through a SEBI-registered Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) or mutual fund distributor, who can help evaluate whether a specific strategy actually fits your risk profile -- something worth doing given how different, say, a long-short equity strategy is from a plain index fund.
Through a brokerage or investment app
Some platforms have added direct SIF transaction support. Zerodha's Coin app and web platform explicitly support SIF investment as of this writing, for open-ended Growth-option schemes (interval SIFs, which require exchange listing, aren't currently supported on Coin). Other major platforms, including Groww, have published detailed educational content explaining what SIFs are, but we could not confirm whether their app currently supports placing an actual SIF transaction -- if you're specifically looking to invest via Groww or another platform, check that app's mutual fund/SIF section directly, since this is an actively evolving area and platform support is likely to expand over time.
What to have ready regardless of route
A completed KYC, and enough capital to meet the ₹10 lakh minimum (aggregated at the PAN level across that AMC's SIF strategies -- see the minimum investment rules for how that aggregation actually works) is required no matter which route you use.
